Great performance at Braintree Tournament

Girls U10s

The Brentwood Minis Section competed in another round of the North Essex Minis Hockey League last Sunday 13th December 2021.

The hosts were Braintree (Blue Hornets) Hockey Club and the games were played at the prestigious venue of Felsted School.

The weather was fine (given the time of year) with sunshine breaking through the clouds.

Up first were the boys.

The Under 10s boys were ably managed by Louis who pulled the boys together into a fine team. They started with two draws against Witham and Braintree followed by a loss to Colchester but that set them up for the best result of the day, a 2 -1 win against Braintree. Robbie B getting a special mention for scoring the winning goal with aplomb as he casually drifted past the goalkeeper and placed the ball over the goal line on the reverse stick. Likewise Ben in goal who was voted the player of the match by the Braintree boys.
Well done to those boys playing their first ever tournament!

The Under 12 boys were up against strong opposition as usual. They started strongly against Witham but were pegged back in the second half to allow their lead to slip and the match finished 3 -3.

The other games against Colchester and Braintree were equally as tight.
Thanks to Olivia B who stepped in to play for the boys this time around. Coach Rob awarded Olivia the under 12 boys "Player of the Tournament" award.

After a short break the girls were on the scene.

With availability light this time around the Girls U10s found themselves with only 5 players. Three games had been lined up vs Braintree following the withdrawal from Maldon and Colchester with similar availability issues.

A big thanks goes to Harriet and Alice of Braintree (Blue Hornets) under 10s girls team who volunteered to play for Brentwood. This brought the team up to 7 and the games were on!

Brentwood took the first match 1 - 0 following a breakaway goal from Erin.
Brentwood took the second match 1 - 0 with Lucy L scoring the goal.
The last match was very tight. Braintree dominated possession but Brentwood were always looking dangerous on the break. And so it was Lucy L again on the scoreboard as the girls snatch a clean sweep with another 1 - 0 win.

The U12 girls' availability was also light and so Imogen O stepped up from the U10 girls to join Eva, Ruby, Sienna and Scott GK. Thanks again to Braintree who provided a player to bolster the team.

The girls performed magnificently as usual. Sienna defended stoutly and Imogen and Ruby were always dangerous up front whilst Eva ran up and down tirelessly covering almost every inch of the pitch!

The girls' last game was end to end action. Both sides pushing each other to perform. Braintree were leading 3 - 2 in the last minutes when Imogen stretched for a long through ball from Eva. The slightest of touches in the"D" was enough to claim the goal. The umpire wasn't sure of the touch and despite Imogen's protestations he decided to disallow the goal. However, upon post match review by the "Brentwood Review Committee" who are totally impartial. it was agreed Imogen had touched the ball inside the "D" and the goal was awarded. Final score 3 -3 (according to Brentwood HC).

We look forward to the next tournament on 16th Jan 2022 – Venue Witham.
