Having lost to Upminster (3s) 1 - 4 the week before, Brentwood 3s were keen to find some form against newly formed Tendring HC.

Congratulations first to Tendring on forming a new club from the ashes of Clacton HC who sadly folded over the summer. Clacton HC have been a major part of both Essex and East hockey for a very long time and were in the past a strong club who performed at a high level. In fact some old faces at Brentwood once played for Clacton in the 1990s. Can you name them?

Firstly, it was raining. Really raining!

Both sides eased themselves into the game but Tendring took the lead from a quick break away goal after only 5 mins.

The 3s woke up and started passing the ball well. Frank L and Louis found space down the left hand side and began to penetrate into the opposition D. Eventually an equaliser came from Spally as he pounced like a cat on a mouse to tap the ball over the net following a good save by the keeper.

Two more goals followed quickly and it looked like it was going to be a drubbing for the Tendring boys. Firstly it was the tireless Louis who showed his summer fitness campaign was paying off as he notched the second. Then Spally "I can't get back to tackle, I'm playing as a high forward!" struck again. 3 - 1.

However ...

Following the half time break Tendring found new form and put the Brentwood defence under pressure. Gary W was strong in the tackle and Andy C was a match for most efforts on his goal.

Tendring had a good penalty corner routine. The best was the straight strike hit powerfully by the big sweeper. 3 - 2.

Then Tendring equalised. Again a penalty corner. A slip left and a powerful flick into the bottom corner. 3 -3 .

Both teams appeared satisfied with the result at the final whistle. A draw was a fair result.

Both teams were just happy to get out of the rain!
